Marcus shares songs and stories with bandmate Khari McClelland and the incomparable vocal talents of Dawn Pemberton. These exceptional local artists with international solo careers, will collaborate on a collection of freedom songs from their shared history. The three will be accompanied by the masterful Noah Walker on guitar. Feel free to sing along from your living room!
Originally from Detroit, Khari has become a darling on the Canadian music scene with reviewers lauding his performances as a clever mix of soul and gospel. Khari’s songwriting crosses genres and generations, joyfully invoking the spirit of his ancestors who straddled the US-Canadian border in efforts to escape slavery and discrimination. His music draws from this rich history, integrating the rhythms and folklore of early African-Americans with contemporary sounds and stories of struggle.
Dawn Pemberton is the secret weapon of funk and soul groups all over Western Canada. Dawn has shared the stage with the likes of Maceo Parker, Linda Tillery, John Lee Sanders, The Sojourners, John Boutté and Dutch Robinson. Her gifts have been featured in the music of future jazz group 1Luv (Sonar Kollektiv) and in blues juggernaut, The Harpoonist and The Axe Murderer.
