The Alternative-Rock quintet Manchester Orchestra was formed in Atlanta, Georgia USA, by singer + guitarist Andy Hull, guitarist Robert McDowell, keyboardist Christopher Freeman, bassist Jonathan Corley and drummer Jeremiah Edmond. Their first step was to record a full album in 2005 which was never released.

It wouldn't be until 2006's "I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child" that the group had a proper release on shelves and the music industry started paying some attention to their sound.

Recorded in Nashville and Atlanta, Manchester Orchestra's sophomere album, "Mean Everything To Nothing", was made on the heels of a very active period for the band. After spending 300 days on the road in support of their debut album touring with such artists as Kings Of Leon, Brand New, Say Anything and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, as well as performing their own headlining shows, in 2008, they played several major U.S. festivals, including Coachella and Lollapalooza and released a 5-song EP, "Let My Pride Be What's Left Behind", in October. All the band's outputs were released on Favorite Gentleman Recordings, the indie label Hull and Edmond founded in 2004 as a way to stay in control of their music. "Mean Everything To Nothing", issued in April 2009, featured the Hot Modern Rock top 10 smash "I've Got Friends" and "Shake It Out" which peaked at #25 on the same chart; the album itself garnered strong reviews and cracked the top 40 of The Billboard 200 chart. Former drummer, Jeremiah Edmond officially left the band in December 2009 to run the day-to-day operations at Favorite Gentlemen. He was replaced by Tim Very.

In May 2011 Manchester Orchestra released its third record, a 10-song set entitled "Simple Math" and the title-track was the album's first single. The disc peaked at #21 on The Billboard 200 and the second single, "April Fool", ascended into the top 40 of The Alternative Songs chart.
