Cory Beers completed his cimbalom studies at the Conservatory of Music in Chişinău, Moldova. Following his return in 2014, he recruited fellow Petrojvic Blasting Company members Brandon Armstrong and Joshua Kaufman to begin his new ensemble, the CORY BEERS CIMBALOM BAND. The trio specializes in Romanian/Moldovan dances, traditional Jewish melodies and an occasional spattering of Viennese romantic miniatures and Bal-musette waltzes. Brandon Armstrong is currently studying abroad so the ensemble performed for us as a duo.

DOWN AT THE YARD, an acoustic concert series, champions artists from Los Angeles and beyond that draw on the city’s vast cultural heritage, showcasing Anglo-American vernacular groups, ragtime pianists, Mexican mariachis, norteño conjuntos, Italian string bands, Balkan/Eastern European ensembles, Jewish devotional music, Western art music and more.
